Kensuibito #1

Posted by 小熊將太 on

"Kensuibito" is a new project in which we interview KENSUI kaku owners about the reasons they decided to purchase their bike, their training habits, and the changes their bodies have undergone.

The first person to attend this commemorative event is Mr. Taniguchi.

Please take a look.

Name: Mitsugu Taniguchi Date of birth: November 30, 1962 (61 years old)

Q. How did you meet KENSUI kaku?

I started road biking four and a half years ago, and although I had made progress in strengthening my lower body, I was looking for a pull-up machine to increase my overall muscle strength, including my upper body, and improve my posture.

Weekday lives alone in an apartment near his workplace, so he was attracted to the space-saving nature of the KENSUI series.

I myself felt the need to exercise and correct my posture because of my long years of sitting at work, poor diet due to an irregular lifestyle, and lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension and dyslipidemia. At that time, I saw a video on YouTube by sexyfitness Yuji about the KENSUI series and learned about the TEDDY WORKS pull-up machine.

Q. There are many pull-up devices available, so why did you choose KENSUI kaku?

It has a stylish design, a luxurious feel, space saving, and the peace of mind of being made in Japan. The idea of integrating a pull-up machine and an incline bench is easy to use and makes the room look neater.

Currently, I have a KENSUI kaku + training bench and an indoor roller stand for my road bike in one room of my apartment. I like having a home gym where I can train regardless of the weather.

Q: Please tell us your exercise history.

I started exercising as a health conscious effort due to my high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome.
About 10 years ago, he started exercising by commuting to work on a cross bike (just over 5km one way) and playing tennis. Later, with the recommendation of Mr. Iwaki, the manager of the bicycle shop (AXIS) that he always uses, he purchased a road bike in September 2019 and has been receiving instruction once a month since then. Two years ago, he met Dr. Oki, the director of Hankai Hospital, where he currently works after retiring from work, and now, once a week on weekdays, he does personal training + pull-ups at the gym in his workplace (SCA), as well as strength training on an incline bench and aerobic exercise on a roller trainer (home training).

My weekly schedule mainly involves hill climbing (mountain climbing) on my road bike on Saturdays and Sundays near my home, such as Mount Kongo and Mizukoshi Pass.

Q: Your career history

He graduated from university as a cardiologist in March 1988. Now that he has retired, he is embarking on a second life at his current workplace (Hankai Hospital), balancing his work as a physician with his own health management.

In April 2023, I will be touring the long-awaited Alps Azumino Century Ride (Nagano) with my friends on my beloved Cervelo.

Q: What is your favorite series?

・KENSUI kaku (straight parallel)

・Training bench

・Roll handle

Q: Hobbies

Road biking, tennis, music, watching movies, etc.

Q: Occupation

Cardiologist

Q: Goals

The goal is 10 pull-ups. I set this goal based on the idea that it is achievable based on the number of pull-ups I saw on YouTube videos.

Q. Please tell us about the changes in your mind and body compared to your current life with your hobby road bike and the KENSUI kaku series.

Strength: I have become stronger than before, and my body fat percentage has gone from 26.7% in 2019 to 13.6% now (May 2024) (see attached PDF file).

Physical fitness: I am getting less out of breath during exercise, and my maximum heart rate when climbing hills on my road bike has increased from 160 beats per minute to around 175 beats per minute.

Posture: I feel like my posture is gradually improving, and my Pilates trainer has told me the same thing.

Diet: I have become more conscious of eating regular meals and a balanced diet.

others:
I can now climb hills on my road bike more smoothly than before. My food tastes better, I sleep better, and I feel more energetic and positive mentally.

Q. Compared to before (high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and back pain), until your current physical fitness has become a habit and you've entered a new life, have you ever felt like giving up on improving your exercise and diet (e.g., you lost motivation)? If so, what did you do to overcome that?

4.5 years ago, when I was mainly doing self-training, there was a period when there was not much change in my body composition or cycling performance. However, since two years ago, I have been receiving personal training from a trainer at a fitness club and the manager of my bicycle shop, and since introducing KENSUI, I have also been strengthening my upper body. Over the past 1.2 months, I have seen significant improvements in both my physical strength and mental health, which has led to increased motivation.
